Peak power was a heady bhp, although this was developed at rpm rather than the dizzying 14,rpm of the F1 car. Torque was perhaps less impressive at lb ft at rpm, but the F50 was still good for a 3. It was a glorious engine though and was about as cutting edge as they came in the mids. Five valves per cylinder, twin overhead camshafts for each bank and dry sump lubrication with Bosch Motronic 2. Perhaps a McLaren F1 would disagree, but it could just be the most glorious naturally aspirated V12 ever fitted to a road car and emitted a sensational howl when extended.
At the back, the engine was bolted to the rear of the passenger cell and acted as a load-bearing member for the transmission and rear suspension. Suspension was via wishbones, with a pushrod system for the horizontally mounted spring and damper units, following contemporary F1 principles.
An electronic damper control system was incorporated to optimise the ride and handling dependent on road conditions.
Brakes were cross-drilled vented discs without servo assistance to provide better feel, while a new style of convex Speedline wheel was fitted — 8. Crazylight is all about fiery speed and the green and black arrows symbolise the forward movement.
Everything about this boot is about speed. Adidas F50 Adizero Crazylight is ridiculously light — and it can be yours! The world actually got an early look at the Crazylight, as Gareth Bale has been training in the boot for the last month — and Bale will be the only player wearing the new Crazylight.
He hopes to give it a scoring debut in the Champions League, when Real Madrid play Schalke and you would think he will wear them too, when they play Barcelona in El Clasico. Lightweight boots really give me an advantage over my opponents and I feel faster and more agile in a lighter boot. I hope to score a couple of goals in them over the next few weeks. Touch on the ball was not compromised, no water got into the boot, and, best of all, the new upper provided a real sense of "second skin" for the player.
Being at the back allowed me to see just what the f50 was like from a standing start and for quick sprints. While the ball was at the other end, it was good to know that the adizero was comfortable to simply stand in. I was thoroughly impressed by the boot in the admittedly brief play test but will be giving the adizero F50 and the rest of the Samba Pack an extended run out for an extended review whenever the ground in Western New York thaws out from the early winter freeze.
